You should have your Journeyman certification as a Cabinetmaker or Joiner and/or 5+ years of hands-on experience in custom architectural woodwork. Must have an excellent understanding of shop drawings, machining & assembly methods, speciality hardware and meeting schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Reading and interpenetrating shop drawings
  • Preparing cutting lists
  • Leading and guiding apprentices
  • Coordinating, leading and bringing together your project through various people and production areas

Skills & Knowledge Requirements: Journeyman Cabinetmaker, AutoCAD or drawing software training, Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word)

The Project Managers job includes (but is not limited to) the following:

  • Reports directly and takes direction from Senior Management
  • Works closely with Estimator and Production Manager
  • On award of project, takes over the change orders and follows up on contract amounts
  • Co-ordinates with administration for contract invoicing
  • Works with the operations & production manager on job scheduling
  • Attends weekly production meetings
  • Produces shop drawings from architectural or interior design drawings
  • Deals with draftsmen concerning their drawings
  • Provides direction to draftsmen regarding construction
  • Reviews shop drawings prior to submittal for accuracy
  • When required will produce cutting lists from approved shop drawings
  • Completes material and hardware takeoffs
  • Places material orders with administration
  • Communicates with customer and interior designer
  • Is responsible for taking site measurements
  • Deals with shop personnel concerning their drawings
  • Sends drawings and color samples out for approval
  • Deal with site personnel, installers and supervisors
  • Site visits are required
  • Attending site meetings is required
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment as required
  • Must follow the safety guidelines as outlined in the company safety manual
  • Other tasks as directed by Senior Management

Skills & Knowledge Requirements: Work experience in our shop
Production worker is an individual that has been trained in house for specific tasks.  Production workers take direction from the Shop Foreman.
Beam Saw operator:

  • Set up and operate the beam saw
  • Cut sheet goods based on a drawing or cutting list
  • Stack goods onto pallet
  • Performs routine maintenance and cleaning on the machine
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment as required
  • Must follow the safety guidelines as outlined in the company safety manual
  • Due to the nature of our business, and fluctuations in work load, the employee may be assigned additional duties that do not normally fall into his category

CNC Operators:

  • Sets up and adjusts machine based on the job
  • Loads product onto machine using a vacuum lift
  • Performs CNC operations (cuts, machines, drills, grooves, etc)
  • Unloads product by hand or using the vacuum lift
  • Performs routine maintenance and cleaning on the machine
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment as required
  • Must follow the safety guidelines as outlined in the company safety manual

Edge Bander Operator:

  • Fills glue pot with glue pellets
  • For plastic laminate edges, glue sizes the adhering surface and cuts the edging on the plastic laminate slitter.
  • For solid wood edges, precuts edging to rough lengths on a mitre saw.
  • Loads the machine magazine with edging material (plastic laminate, solid wood, striped veneer, rolls of PVC or rolls of veneer)
  • Sets up and adjusts edge bander based on the job to be done
  • Occasionally works with a helper
  • Insert sheet components to apply edges.
  • Performs routine maintenance and cleaning on the machine
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment as required
  • Must follow the safety guidelines as outlined in the company safety manual

Press operators:

  • Mix glue
  • Set up and operate the glue spreader
  • Set up and operate the hot or cold press
  • Press veneer, laminate and core
  • If required they trim veneer
  • Stack goods onto pallets
  • Performs routine maintenance and cleaning on the machine
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment as required
  • Must follow the safety guidelines as outlined in the company safety manual
  • Due to the nature of our business, and fluctuations in work load, the employee may be assigned additional duties that do not normally fall into his category

Vertical panel saw:

  • Sets up and adjusts vertical panel saw
  • Loads core onto the machine
  • Cuts core based on a cutting list
  • Usually works with a helper
  • Performs routine maintenance and cleaning on the machine
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment as required
  • Must follow the safety guidelines as outlined in the company safety manual

Wide Belt sander:

  • Sets up and adjusts wide belt sander
  • Inserts the required sanding belts
  • Lift goods to insert into machine and restack on output
  • Occasionally works with a helper
  • Performs routine maintenance and cleaning on the machine
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment as required
  • Must follow the safety guidelines as outlined in the company safety manual

The Draftsman job includes the following:

Skills & Knowledge Requirements: None
These people are hired to assist trained workers, and perform cleaning. They may be trained for a specific task, so they can move up to be a production worker.
Helpers / Labourers are not permitted to operate a machine without prior training and supervision.
The Helper / Labourer job includes the following:

  • Operate machines that are set up by the Foreman or Cabinetmaker, with safety hold downs, power feeds, etc.
  • Requires lifting of material, material handling ( not forklift related)
  • Unloading or tailing of a machine, such as the edge bander, wide belt sander, etc.
  • Assisting press operator
  • Sweeping and cleaning, gathering recycled materials
  • Takes direction from Shop Foreman
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment as required
  • Must follow the safety guidelines as outlined in the company safety manual
  • Due to the nature of our business, and fluctuations in work load, the employee may be assigned additional duties that do not normally fall into his category
